CHINA TO CONSTRUCT INTERNET OF THINGS.

BEIJING, China -- The following information was released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences:

China is speeding up on development of "Internet of Things", making it a new engine for economic growth and an opportunity to catch up with the developed countries.

The ambitious project involves several reseach institutes, including Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University of China, with strong support from Chinese government. Reseracherss disclose that they have made certain achievements in the research.

"Internet of Things" is a number of technologies and research disciplines that enable the Internet to reach out into the real world of physical objects. Technologies like RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device), short-range wireless communications, real-time localization and sensor networks are now becoming increasingly common, bringing the Internet of Things into commercial use. They foreshadow an exciting future that closely interlinks the physical world and cyberspace - a development that is not only relevant to researchers, but to corporations and individuals alike.

Researchers in Electrical and Electronic Experiment Demonstration Centre of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics have engaged in "Internet of Things" for about four years and have developed wireless sensor network system platform of their own intellectual property. The platform includes ad hoc network wireless sensor node, data storage and data remote access terminal, said Zhao Guoan, director of the demonstration centre.

SIMIT, one of the earliest research institutes entering the area, has started to establish a high tech micro-nano telesthesia network engineering centre in Wuxi city of Jiangsu Province in Southeast China. Leading researchers are lobbying the government for more favorable policies of design, management and cooperation for the project.
