Fed: PM calls Packer a generous Australian
JOHN HOWARD says Australia's richest man was also one of the nation's most generous.
He's paid tribute to KERRY PACKER .. who died at his Sydney home last night .. aged 68.
The media magnate .. who passed away with his family by his side .. controlled PBL
.. was the owner of the Nine Network .. magazines .. including the Australian Women's
Weekly .. and Crown Casino.
But the prime minister says there was more to the man than his business prowess.
He says he was an influential business man .. who believed in looking after his own
interests .. and made no apologies for doing so .. but always had a concern about Australia.
Mr HOWARD says Mr PACKER was a generous .. philanthropic person and a larger than life character.
And he says he spoke to Mr PACKER'S widow .. ROS .. this morning and offered her his sympathies.
