NT: Stephen King is left "to the tomatoes" in Alice

Best-selling American author STEPHEN KING has made a low-key appearance at an Alice
Springs bookstore .. signing six copies of his latest book before slipping away to go
grocery shopping.

The multi-millionaire was so low-key .. he was suspected of defacing the books by a
fellow customer who didn't recognise him.

Store manager BEV ELLIS says authors have come in to sign books before .. but they
don't usually just open the books and go for it.

Ms ELLIS says after Mr KING left .. she followed him into Woolworths across the road
.. telling him if she'd known he was coming .. she would have baked him a cake.

The six signed copies of his latest book .. Lisey's Story .. will be donated to charity.
