NSW: Search stepped up for missing man

The search will be stepped up today for a 67-year-old man who fell from his boat on
the New South Wales Hawkesbury River yesterday.

The man from Lillyfield in Sydney's west was with his nine-year-old grand-daughter
in a small runabout when he fell overboard near Sentry Box Reach, about 5.30 pm.

Police say the girl was unable to stop the vessel, which had the motor running, and
she jumped into the water to try and help her grandfather.

Her grandfather told the girl to swim to the bank and said he would float with the river.

The girl made it to shore and alerted emergency services.

Searchers last night found the boat but no sign of the man.

Polair and Brisbane Waters police will join an ambulance rescue boat in the Gunderman
area after 7 am (AEST) today.
