Vic: Police deny corruption in forensic centre

Police have denied claims an underworld figure paid off an employee at Victoria's forensic
science centre, forcing investigators to send evidence to New South Wales for processing.

Deputy Commissioner PETER NANCARROW has confirmed a taskforce investigating corruption
in the now-disbanded Victorian drug squad sent forensic samples interstate, but says that's
not unusual.

ABC radio says a drug boss boasted to a police informer in 2001 that he had a scientist
from the Victorian forensic centre on his payroll.

COMMISSIONER NANCARROW says the allegation has been investigated and is untrue.
